There is more to shooting a pistol or revolver than just picking up the gun and pulling the trigger. The Basics of Pistol Shooting course prepares students to own and/or use a pistol or revolver safely by introducing the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes. The course is taught over two sessions. The classroom portion of the course teaches: • Safety aspects of using and handling a handgun • Different types of handguns • Parts of a pistol or revolver • Components of a cartridge • Malfunctions • Fundamentals of handgun shooting • Range commands • Shooting positions • Cleaning and care of a pistol Practical application is a two to three hour session at a safe, established shooting range using live-fire exercises during which students will practice the basic shooting fundamentals they just learned. This course satisfies the Colorado state training requirements for a Concealed Handgun Permit. Note: Those who have a legal state medical marijuana card are not eligible to purchase a firearm under federal law and therefore, are not eligible to take this course.
